Bread burnt on outside and not done on inside

So I’m kinda like baking this bread type of thingy… the outisde is like all burnt… but the inside isn’t like done! is it still edible? likee is it ok to eat?

Answer #1

Start over - chalk it up to bad oven karma.

Answer #2

I dont know what your baking, but it sounds to me, if you just keep it in the oven for a while with the heat totaly off it may cook. dont eat it unless you ask a parent or gardien. because im not aware of what you are making..

Answer #3

it wouldnt be a good idea to eat it mainly because its burnt and raw in the middle and putting it back in the oven wont do it any good so just throw it out and start again and dont feed it to any animals like a dog, bird or other pet, just put it in the bin

rubbercrutches was right on about turning the oven down a bit, but there are a couple of other things that you need to consider:

  • underproofed bread will have a heavy, doughy consistency, so make sure you let it rise until double in size
  • if you’re using a bread pan, pop the bread out of the pan when it’s almost done and lay it on it’s side on a baking sheet to help it cook on the bottom (the top cooks faster)

I don’t recommend baking it until it’s black, however - that’s burnt. If you need to know if the bread is fully cooked, tap it on the bottom with your knuckles - a baked loaf will sound hollow.

Answer #5

You probably should not eat it. You could get food poisoning.

Answer #6

I dont think so.

Answer #7

Umm well just let it be done baking then take a bite && see

Answer #8

I have worked as a professional baker for years. Assuming that what you are baking in simply a bread product, there isn’t anything in it that you can’t eat if it is not baked completely, or baked too much (as in burnt). It won’t hurt you at all… I will just simply not taste as good.

Next time you bake what ever you are baking, turn the heat down on your oven and bake it on a lower shelf in the oven until the underside is just starting to turn brown. If you want a nicer color for the top of the bread product, you can mix up one raw egg in a glass of water and brush it on the top just before it is finished. This is called an “egg wash” and it will brown the product to a nice color on top. (Also, sometimes using milk for the wash will also produce the same type of effect).

Here is a rule for baking. “When it’s black, it’s done. You just don’t want it quite “done” is all “ :-)
