How does gauging your ears work?

Answer #1

they start with a small hole in ur ear, then gradualy get bigger. its not fun.

Answer #2

The majority of people these days who do it, they get plastic spikes or something, usually called stretchers. They tend to push or twist them through to stretch the ear lobe, they come in a variety of sizes, so people stretch them to whatever length they wish.

Answer #3

They’re called tapers not stretchers………..

Answer #4

When you stretch your ears (it’s not actually called gauging, a gauge is a size), you start out with small pieces called tapers. These are made of wood, plastic, or metal usually. You slowly put that through your piercing’s hole. You can taper up every 3 days to 2 weeks, depending on when it stops hurting (everybody is different). Despite popular misconception, if you do it right there is no pain.

Answer #5

How is it not fun?…

Answer #6

how would a girl go about getting them done? just an average day at the piercing parlor?

Answer #7

Well, you’d have to pierce your ears first and slowly start getting bigger and bigger earrings to stretch the original hole.

Answer #8

the dude sneezed while doing it and yanked it out of my ear

Answer #9

ahhh thanks, always wondered the name :)

Answer #10

You do not stretch up that quick. Wait a month if you dont want blown out nasty lobes.

Answer #11

That doesn’t mean every guy sneezes every time he stretches someone’s ears… And you can do it yourself lol

Answer #12

Of course :)

Answer #13

After you pierce your ears, wait for the 6 months it takes them to heal and then you can buy either 16G or 14G tapers. Then you just slide them through. I would recommend coating them with a thin layer of antibiotic cream or vaseline just to make sure they don’t catch. @TwiddleMuffin, you don’t have to wait a month. Even a professional in a piercing parlor only recommends 2 weeks. It depends on how quickly you heal.

Answer #14

Antibiotic cream & vaseline are also no-no’s. They do not let your ears breathe, use vitiman E oil, jojoba oil, emu oil, or even extra virgin olive oil. Yes you should wait a month, you’re stretching out the hole in your ear it needs time to relax & heal.

Answer #15

Ears don’t breathe… They don’t have lungs… I think I would know what to do, my cousin does piercings professionally.. JS.

Answer #16

That’s not what I meant -_- skin needs air like anything else does. Your cousin has nothing to do with this or your knowledge either js.

Answer #17

Triple antibiotic cream DOES give skin air. If vaseline’s so bad for you, why do doctors recommend it? If you can put it on your face without breaking out you can put it pretty much anywhere else and it won’t hurt you. He does when I work for him…..

Answer #18

Okay but when you put vaseline on your skin you don’t have something on top of it. When you put it on your ear lobes you also put plugs with it & plugs as it is don’t let your ears breathe you gotta give them a break sometimes too, but vaseline just makes it even harder for them to get air.
