Discus Throw

hey… anyone got any tips on throwing the discus to make it go farther?

Answer #1

I threw discus in high school.

I found the hardest aspect of form was learning to lead with the hips in the turn. You see if you lead with the hips your upper body winds up like a spring giving you extra power.

Even with perfect form there is no substitute for strength. Incline bench press, flys, one armed bent rows will build the muscles needed to throw the discus a long way.

  1. try and stand in the middle of the ring instead of towards the back because that way it’ll cover a few extra feet

  2. keep practicing

  3. if you do the spin that’ll make it go farther than if you were to just stand and throw it

  4. try lifting weights as much as you can because that’ll help you build upper body strength
