are there husbands and wives in heaven?
This is a little bit of what I know about the concept of being husband and wife not only on Earth, but in Heaven (or in other words, have a marriage be Eternal)...
Many think that in Heaven all will be single, angels, as Matt 22:30 (and Luke 20:34) seems to reference. In this verse, Christ actually referenced to those who are married only by the power man, and not by the authority of God (making use of the sealing powers given to Peter, James, and John while Christ was on the Earth - Matthew chapter 17 (see chapters 16-18) in the Bible). Those who are only married "until death do you part" will most likely simply receive that, and no promise of being husband & wife after death, while those who are married "for time and all eternity" by a person authorized by God to perform such a marriage, are able to continue that relationship for Eternity (forever), as long as they keep the promises they made to eachother and to God. Here are some scriptures that reference actions (or ordinances) performed on Earth under God's power...
Eccl 3:14 - God's actions on Earth last forever
Matt 16:19, 18:18 - Christ gave Peter (as he did and does with prophets & apostles) the power to make his actions on Earth (such as baptism & marriage) be recorded in Heaven - Christ did this to organize things before he was crucified (because he knew it was soon).
Mark 10:9 - Man can't break what God puts together
1 Cor. 11:11 - This isn't just during this life
Eph 5:31 - This touches on unity (being one flesh) - creating a unity that will last through this life and the next.
It is because of our Savior that eternal marriage is possible. Because of his sacrifice, his teachings, the priesthood power he held, and his perfect life, we are now able to have many merciful blessings in our lives, including the incredible promise of being able to be with the one we love forever, and not simply until death parts us.
The bible says that we will know as we are known, however, I think the love will be so great and so perfect there, that there will be no need for marriage, and I am speaking of a pure love, and not a sexual love, as the love that we will experience there will be greater than anything we can imagine down here.
no ... we are like the angels in heaven and our relationships are more like that of siblings since marriage was established in order that the species would fill the earth; that mission will no longer exist ... we are however told that we will be like a bride to Christ (the groom)
I dont think so? according to the bible the role of people in heaven is to serve God. seeing as marriage is needed on earth to follow gods laws as far as reproduction goes...im thinking because its not necessary its not there in heaven.
Like on earth? According to the bible it was also meant to be “perfect” ;-) Hope for your sake Adam & Eve don’t overstep their boundaries again!
No they promised to stay married and the contract only read:
TILL DEATH DO US APART ;-)
Only gay marriage that's what my priest told me
