Who believes that people lived to like 900 years old back in the biblical days?

Why or why not?

Answer #1

i do not believe that is even possible. because science is the key to everything lol. for one, cells life and muscle function slows down so much at old age (70+) and it ends up causing death. another genetic life span is only estimated to be around 150 years old. so there is no way anyone could live 900 years.

Answer #2

because nine years feels like nine hundred without the internet.

Answer #3

i think the bible is not to be takin so lteral. remember this is billions of years ago. theree years might have been different then r years today. things were different then. like in revolations whenit says theat there will be a beast with armor for a breast plate with stings in its tail… once again dont take it so literal. its talking about helicopters. i think. just back then they never seeen anything like that so they dint understand like we do

Answer #4

there years must have been shorter than our years today.

Answer #5

I do. People were a lot smaller back then. Like in the 4 and 5 foot region. And think about their diet! No soda, or artificial sweetner, and imagine their level of physical fitness, they rode or walked everywhere. On camels mind you. Not smooth Audis. And then they got plenty of sun, cancer wasnt a factor, and people were a lot nicer, and stress was obviously less. It wouldve been easy to live to be at least 150 for us. And most people didnt live over 500 anyways.

Answer #6

I don’t believe it was possible Divide those numbers by 12 and you get a lot more realistic idea of age in my opinion during that time. People today live a lot longer due to medical technology and we have vaccines for a lot of diseases that people died from back then.

Answer #7

its not billions of years ago, only 2000

Answer #8

well u no wat i mean

Answer #9

i think that they measured years differently back then

Answer #10

i agree

Answer #11

i think the years were measured differntly

Answer #12

it was by the moon, and not much different then our calendar. scientists have already proven that

Answer #13

they have seen the calendars from back then? hmmm never heard that

Answer #14

We are not to measure biblical years in different terms than our current method of 365 days to a year. Yes the Patriarchs of the Old Testament really did live as long as the Bible states. How do we explain this?

Some so called “scholars” claim that the ancient calendar made the year a month, or one lunar period. Others assert that a year equals one growing season of three or four months. One group says that a year in the bible was actually three months from Adam till Abraham, eight months till Joseph’s time, and twelve months thereafter. None of these “scholars” give any scriptural evidence for their preposterous conclusions.

Let me illustrate. If we accept the idea that one year actually equaled one month in our time, we have Enoch at five years old when his son Methuselah was born! The age of all the patriarch at the birth of their children would be equally preposterous.

This being true, how do we explain the long life-spans of the Patriarchs? One explanation might be the dramatically different world that the Patriarchs lived in. Before the flood the Bible indicates that there had been no rain. Many believe there was a “water-vapour” canopy surrounding the earth, giving greater protection from the sun’s radiation, and creating a sub-tropical environment all around the world. This would account for the fossil record which indicates sub-tropical vegetation all over the earth at some time in earth’s past. In such a moist atmosphere growth would have been greatly stimulated (for both man and animals), the oxygen content could have been much higher than present day conditions, man could have been stronger with greater endurance tending to longevity.

This all seems to explain why there is a steady progression of declining ages of men as their distance from the Creation increases. Adam lived 930 years, his son Seth lived 912 years. Lamech was his son, he lived 777 years. Noah was his son, he lived 950 years. Shem was his son, he lived 600 years. Shem’s son (Arphaxad) lived 438 years. Arphaxad’s son Salah lived 403 years. Jump a few generations to Abraham, he lived 175 years. Skip a few more generations to Moses, he lived 120 years. His age brings us down to the age some people live in our own time. There is a woman living in France today that is 126!

Why the decline in ages? Probably the change in the environment from the beginning to Moses day. There is no reason to believe that there should be a different way of counting Old Testament years.

Answer #18

i can see that

Answer #19

I believe it. They didn’t have McDonalds back then! :P

Answer #20

lol true

Answer #21

Its mans life style and all the bad blood passed down from people who didnt take care of their health, our DNA has been corrupted, it could be reversed but you would have to have a program to force people to eat, live, and only do things that are healthy for them and then breed these and do it again like 8 times thru 8 generations to get people who contain healthier DNA. By then you and I will be dead so we wont get to see the results but it is possible I believe.

Answer #22

it might be.

Answer #23

its proven that even 200 years ago people only lived to about 30, even 40 was unheard of.. and with all the disease that was going on back then with no medication, there is nooo way people lived to 900 haha

Answer #24

and what kind of disease was going on 2000 years ago?

Answer #25

im sorry but where is it proven that ppl only lived to 30 two hundred years ago? the diseases have came through out time.

Answer #26

Not me. Especially as the Pharaoh,s didn’t live that long.

Answer #27

To really grasp life we need to understand death, and that this thing we call death was not the original plan- immortality was, death is like a virus that has been passed down through all generations. This is why as time goes by lives get greatly shortened. Look at how people live, party, drink, hate, anger, strife, these things weaken the body. Try to follow what I am about to explain it took me years to discover this: We are all mater in motion - there are patterns to moving mater. The earth rotates around the sun on a set path, the electrons make set rotations around their center, to achieve immortality you have to follow the correct path that leads to eternal existence or perpetual motion as a whole. We are all part of the whole, all is connected, no man is an island unto himself, every action we make (mater in motion) has a domino effect on our surroundings in all directions. By performing actions out of there original established time and place causes the fabric of the pattern of the who around you to trail off in wrong paths -this ability to control the various motion of matter we call “free will” If this free will is not controlled the end result is death of destruction of the original pattern. Performing acts out of order and their proper time is what man calls “sin” - You can understand this by taking any of the ten commandments and seeing them as what they truly are: some act that is performed by a human, a being with “:free will”, all sins are breaking a pattern - steeling is taking something that you did not earn, you skipped the steps of earning the money, going to the store, selecting the product, and paying for it. the “act” was performed out of its proper place and time. - This is what makes right, right, and wrong, wrong. The Creator established rules when He laid the foundation of the world, these rules are the pattern of immortality. This is why God will never die , He will never break these patterns, because of this reason angels and beings can live forever. Contradiction is breaking the set pattern. Man broke the rule and God could not just forgive us- the pattern was corrupted, the law (or rules) had to be fulfilled. This is the secret to understand the Cross and why God had to come to earth as a man in the form of Jesus. The law had to be fulfilled that the corrupted pattern leads to death. By a perfect being (Jesus), dying it set the pattern back on track, now the only way to find immortality is through Christ. And God made it easy all He asks is that we ask God forgiveness of our sins and believe that Jesus was God and took our place. It all makes sense people just try to distort and confuse it. This is Ultimate Truth.

Answer #28

maybe they got to pick their ages???

Answer #29

it is proven by science, carbon dating of bones or something like that.. proven the same way we know about dinosaurs.. and obviously diseases evolved over time, but people die today with fevers.. you think people that have NO medical help back in the day were gonna survive something more severe than a common cold? no, common sense

Answer #30

i dont agree. there was medical help back in the day. just not as advanced because they didnt have to be. no sickness was major as they are today. and im pretty sure my great grandma lived 200 years ago and she lived to be 100. nd so did all her family. i have never heard of ppl dying at 30. then y are we living longer now? 200 years ago ppl lived the same amount of time as we do now around 70-100 years if lucky

Answer #31

i see. hmm. thanks for that insight

Answer #32

no, just, no. Their food ended up with sand and stuff in it and that destroyed their teeth. They could have EASILY gotten skin cancer. The people WERE NOT nicer. They were constantly at war with each other. The Mesopotamians were forever trying to kill each other for more land. Disease was cured often by spiritual practices and for the most part, not medicine. There was a lot of stress because you would work your whole life and if you didn’t pay your debt, you were enslaved. You would live to more like 40.

Answer #33

I think Moses lived to around 30

Answer #34

OK lets assume the years were measured differently in those days and (as has been suggested) “their” year was actually more like one lunar month of 28 days (and that there are slightly more than 13 lunar months in one “modern” year) . This would imply that Methuselah’s age of 969 years (as claimed) was equivalent to 969/13 = 74.5 modern years - which is plausible. . However, the same biblical section (claims that Mahalalel became the father of Jared when he was 65 years old and on the same scale that would have made him 65/13 = 5 modern years. Come off it. It stretches the imagination that he could even have fathered a child at 10 (modern) years of age, and if we accepted that as possible even that would imply that Methuselah must have lived to an age of around 150 (modern) years. . Of course, to those who believe in the omnipotence of God, anything is possible, and we might as well agree that in reality the years then were longer, and Methuselah quoted age of 969 was really the equivalent of 400 million years, and he lived both before the dinosaurs and other primeval creatures evolved, and was still alive after they became extinct. . Moreover, if you are into believing fairy tales, anything is possible and you can believe what you feel like believing. .

When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind”[a] when they were created. . 3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. 4 After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 5 Altogether, Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died. . 6 When Seth had lived 105 years, he became the father[b] of Enosh. 7 After he became the father of Enosh, Seth lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters. 8 Altogether, Seth lived a total of 912 years, and then he died. . 9 When Enosh had lived 90 years, he became the father of Kenan. 10 After he became the father of Kenan, Enosh lived 815 years and had other sons and daughters. 11 Altogether, Enosh lived a total of 905 years, and then he died. . 12 When Kenan had lived 70 years, he became the father of Mahalalel. 13 After he became the father of Mahalalel, Kenan lived 840 years and had other sons and daughters. 14 Altogether, Kenan lived a total of 910 years, and then he died. . 15 When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he became the father of Jared. 16 After he became the father of Jared, Mahalalel lived 830 years and had other sons and daughters. 17 Altogether, Mahalalel lived a total of 895 years, and then he died. . 18 When Jared had lived 162 years, he became the father of Enoch. 19 After he became the father of Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 20 Altogether, Jared lived a total of 962 years, and then he died. . 21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. 22 After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. 24 Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away. . 25 When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he became the father of Lamech. 26 After he became the father of Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters. 27 Altogether, Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then he died. . 28 When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son. 29 He named him Noah[c] and said, “He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the LORD has cursed.” 30 After Noah was born, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters. 31 Altogether, Lamech lived a total of 777 years, and then he died. . 32 After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham and Japheth. .

Answer #35

We have FAR better medication now, they had very little and they did need it. Scientists can find approximate ages and most didn’t live to any more than 50. Their diseases were really bad because they didn’t know how to treat it. It can be dangerous to open a sarcophagus because it could bring some of their diseases back to us.

Answer #36

Their food ended up with sand and stuff in it and that destroyed their teeth. They could have EASILY gotten skin cancer. The people WERE NOT nicer. They were constantly at war with each other. The Mesopotamians were forever trying to kill each other for more land. Disease was cured often by spiritual practices and for the most part, not medicine. There was a lot of stress because you would work your whole life and if you didn’t pay your debt, you were enslaved. You would live to more like 40, if that. I don’t believe all of the Bible.

Answer #41

it all boils down to this: God made it difficult for us to believe. if we had everything figured out then we would all believe and its about faith…

Answer #42

if everyone believed bc there was proof then the idea of faith is no longer necessary. God wants us to have faith. thats y he did everything the way it is. so we cant figure it out.

Answer #43

I think it’s a translation error. I mean, the bible was hand-copied very often and translated from ancient hebrew to greek to latin to any other languages. I think it’s an error that came along in some copy. If you assume that they counted months then 900 would be roughly 75 years. That is very old age for people those days. They had no medicine, people used to die young. A person who reaches 75 would have been Metusaleah to them.

I think its months, not years.

Answer #45

I think its actually months, not years. 900 months would be roughly 75 years. And that sounds realistic.

I mean, how many times has that book been hand-copied and translated? I think that a translation error is more likely than a human actually becoming that old.

Answer #46

this is figuring it out

Answer #56

2000* sorry… and im pretty sure leeches dont compare to the medical help we have in modern times.. we are at the height of human technology, and we can only usually help people live to about 75.. how would people in biblical times survive to live 900 years?

Answer #57

you have to believe in uniformism to think that.
