What in the world makes people ask questions that they already know the answer to?

Because they are young kids who need advice from older people so they dont make mistakes or are made fun of for there inquiry.

I’m talkin about in general, not always on here, but out in the real world I get that alot

I think it used to be that way, but since we don’t get points for questions anymore, I think that’s slowed down a bit.

Maybe a rhetorical question or they want to know what other people think before answering themselves to fit in.

some do it for points, some do it for reassurance & some just do it because they are bored! :P

Some ask questions just for the sake of asking questions. As per your question above, I have seen members who are pretty switched on when answering other people’s questions and then post questions of their own and I am thinking “WTF, don’t tell me you don’t know the answer of your own damn question”. Most of the time, they do it as an act of attention seeking, just to have their questions on the board and to broadcast to the world what they are up too. Most of the time I reckon it is all bull-crap the stuff that is happening around them you see it a lot in questions.

I ask questions that I have a sertain idea or opinion about, but I’d like to know what others tgink about the same topic… It never hurts to open up your mind to other perspectives and ideas…

I do that, I’ll ask a question I already the answer to. I do it, because it’s a way of gaining knowledge from a different individual, for one. Another reason, it can be a way to surprise others how smart you are when you know something they don’t. (;
