I’m a stay at home mom of 2 boys… 2 years and almost 4 years. I’m not able to actually go to a job and work, so I started looking around for other things to do to make money. I now sell Mary Kay Cosmetics. I just started at the end of January. It’s $100 to start and that gets your starter kit so you can go out and start doing facials and get people to buy the products. I personally decided to add another $600 to get product on my shelf… that way it was handy for my customers not to have to wait for their order. That is NOT required and it’s your own choice. Now, I’ve had a slow start since I’m also a volunteer at my church and we’re in the middle of preparing for a conference… but I’ve MADE just over $500 in the past month… and I’ve only done 5 faces. I have 7 classes scheduled for next month (and those can be held at your own home if you want). The classes are where you meet your friends friends and you only need 3 people over 18 for it to be considered a class. If you book even just one of those people for a class then your customer base will continue to grow. It’s also NOT a pyramid scheme like many people think. Mary Kay buys it’s cosmetics from the Wholesaler at 90% of the costs (I think I’m wording that right.. lol), but this allows them to PAY the Director’s their commission instead of the commission coming from the Consultant’s pocket… which is what happens in pyramid schemes. The best part about all of this is that I decide my hours… AND I’m even able to take my kids to some of my classes depending on how well I’m friends with my customers and whether they have kids of their own. We just make it a play date and do make-up. Well… here’s my website if you’d like more information: www.marykay.com/tracysandhagen

Answer #3

I am a stay at home working mother. I find that so far, if I am very strict with myself about doing the work I have had much success. The whole 1099 thing was confusing, but other than that my boss walked me through each step, what the start-up was v.s. what I would make per hour. And I AM paid per hour, so it works well. I guess it just depends upon what type of business you are doing.
