Krisch is used in cakes to pour over it, what is krisch?why is it used to pour or sprinkle on cakes?can any substitute be used instead of it?

Pure kirsch is an alcohol used in baking for flavouring, there are non alcohol based kirsch flavouring as well, it is used a lot in Black forest and other German cakes.
