What kind of dog should I get?

What kind of dog should I get? We have an almost 2 year old Bernese Mountain Dog, and he is very playful and fun, yet needs a LOT of attention! My family is thinking about getting another dog, but we don’t know what kind! We don’t want to get a golden retriever because of something that happened with our golden retriever about a year ago when she suddenly died…but we are looking for a big dog, preferably one with a soft coat, thats good for families and other dogs. Also, we don’t really care about slober/drool/stupidity, as our dog now shows these qualities daily! Thanks in advance, and if ya’ll have any suggestions for breeds, please let me know :)

go to http://www.petfinder.com/

and adopt a great big, loveable dog. they have great pyrs and newfoundlands, etc. enter your zip code and dogs and search away. you will find many large breeds that you might not have thought about. also you can pick the age and the level of training…many are house trained…

I’m there with amoeba, use Petfinder :)

If you get one from a shelter pick the biggest, black dog you can find. They are so unwanted, shelters are full of them (people think they’re scary) :(

a great pyrenees! they kind of have the build of a golden retriever except they have all white fur, but they can come in other colors such as tan and grey. they’re also mountain dogs like your pet :] apparently they’re very confident, gentle and affectionate. they’re adorable as puppies and even cuter when grown up.

I wanted one really badly but I knew my yard was too small to handle a very large dog so I got an american eskimo which is much smaller :D

A Newfy (Newfoundland)…they are sweet, kind…LARGE…swim, and not so far removed from your Bernese Mtn. dog…They look kinda stupid, but I don’t really think they are…they’re soft, and drool…It’d fit right in!!

Great Pyrs are nice dogs, but lean towards a more aloof and protective personality…they’re great with their own familys, but need lots of socialization to be dependible with outside people…they were “guarders” when they made a living. Newfs were used to save lives, so are hard wired to liking humans…you’d never have to worry about the neighbor kids, or strangers…Your Bernise can handle the watchdog part of things.
