Good Friday, also called Holy Friday or Great Friday, is the Friday before Easter (Easter always falls on a Sunday). It commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus at Calvary.

It was new beginning of grace and Christianity when God sent his only Son Jesus into the world to live in the form of a fleshly body as man and to suffer the sins of the world by being born to a virgin so that He was without blemish; performed God’s work for 33 years on the Earth until God put into effect all the things talked about in the Old Testament that would take place in this series of events which lead up to the betrayal of Christ by His disciple Judas Iscariot, the denial of His other disciple Simon Peter while being interrogated by Caiaphas, Herod & finally Pontious Pilate, who after pleading with the crowd to release Him as he found no fault worth Jesus’ death-the elders stirred up the crowd to have Barabbas released instead and Jesus was put to death at Calvary on “Good Friday”, but told those who knew Him that on the 3rd day, He would rise (from the dead) again, which became Easter Sunday. I only wonder what they are going to call the 2nd coming of Christ? Magnificent & beyond anyone’s expectations!!!

I am going a little deeper.

The week leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion is called Holy Week. It begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Monday. The biblical references below are taken from Matthew, you can cross check these in the other synoptic gospels of Luke and Mark and also in the gospel of John.

Traditionally (and biblically) the following events happened on these days.

Palm Sunday: Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey (Matthew 21:7) with his disciples and the crowds welcomed him shouting ‘Hosanna’. Clearing of the temple (Matthew 21:12-17) and general healing miracles.

Holy Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: Withering of the fig tree (Matthew 21:18-22), Jesus teaches in the city - many parables. The authorities are afraid of his teachings and conspire to arrest him.

Maundy Thursday: Jesus meets with his disciples in an upper room. Where they celebrate the last supper (Matthew 26:20ff). Jesus prays in the garden. Judas betrays Jesus. Jesus taken to Ciaphas the high priest. Peter denies knowing Jesus.

Good Friday: (Matthew 27:1ff) Jesus is delivered to Pilate (27:2). Judas hangs himself. Barabbas is released by the crowd and Jesus is condemned to be crucified. Jesus walks through the city to the place of the skull (Golgotha). He is crucified (Matthew 27:33-51). Jesus is taken down from the cross and placed in a tomb by Joseph of Arimathea (27:57)

Easter Sunday: Mary and Mary Magdalene went to the tomb to find it empty and they meet with the Risen Jesus (28:1-10)

the greatest event of all time happened on good friday… God sent his only son Jesus down to earth… Jesus Christ walked the earth for 33 years spreading the word of God, proforming miracles, and bringing people to the father… Good Friday was in history the day where was persecuted… it was the day when God turned his face for a couple of seconds and let his son hang and die on a cross because he LOVES us so much that he wanted to give the ultimate scrafice and shed his sons blood to forgive all of our sins… I hope I helped…
