I am former military and so is my husband. I joined at age 20 (I was medically discharged after 4 months for stress fractures.) and my husband joined right out of High School for Infantry.

My husband was in training when 9/11 happened and he fought in Afghanistan. He was honorably discharged (aka he did his time) in 2003.

The military is a wonderful thing if you can cut it.

As far as recruiters in school - it’s a wonderful idea.

If my husband didn’t join then we would be struggling right now. His school is all paid for through the military and he gets a lot of great benefits like VA loans n such. And to be honest, if he hadn’t have run into a recruiter he would have never joined.

I look at military recruiters in schools just like career fair people or college representatives - they’re doing the same thing.

It’s ultimately the person’s decision - just like going to a certain college or special school is.

The military has awesome benefits that no one else can touch. You get the discipline, a great body and a load of confidence (besides USAA benefits, VA benefits, the GI bill and a great resume)

I recommend anyone to join the Army or any other branch of the Military.

Here’s my veiw and what some of the kids/teachers I know in my school who talked about it together think: We think that because of the war going on in the middle east and because of just the army itself that they are desperate to get more recruits. They are going to our high school’s because at our age, because we are so young, a majority of us think that we’ll never die and that this war may be something interesting that we don’t understand the whole picture. At our age about 14-18, and I’m including myself because I am still considered in this category, our brains still haven’t mastered the ability of thinking reasonably.

The army is using this to their advantage and coming to our schools so they can get recruits. People in there 20’s and 30’s tend to be more resilient to the idea of joining the army. They are doing the same thing as smoking companies, and drinking companies only they can’t come directly to us face to face.

Some of my teachers have even told us that if the school’s decided to stop them from coming that funds would be cut more because some of our funds are from the government.

This is my opinion and I’m interested in seeing what others think about this situation. ~Alanna

We are fortunate enough to live in a country that has a voluntary military force, unlike most countries. This means that the military must do what it can to recruit people and compete with the civilian sector. Schools are a prime recruiting location because many young people aren’t sure yet what they want to do with their lives or can’t afford college, and the military can offer them some great things. Yes, war is a reality and we are at war right now, there’s no getting around that. But the last time the US fought a major war, most of the combatants were sent there whether they wanted to go or not. That’s no longer the case. I think recruiters in the schools is an excellent idea, as I think many youth today would benefit from some time in the military. I know I did.

Considering that the whole goal of public education is to turn imaginitive, idealistic, and exicted kids into obedient, patient, and reasonable cogs to run society having military recruiters on campus seems perfect. School turns us into bricks in the wall and what better a tool for society can you be than a soldier?

Definately be allowed - great benefits not to mention the opportunity to serve a great country and have a part in keeping America free for your children and future generations…partial, but ‘Go Air Force’ !! :-)
