What did michael servatus believe about the holy spirit?

Answer #1

Servatus taught that the Word is eternal and a facet of God’s self-expression. He went on to say that the Son of God is the union of the eternal Word with the man Jesus. Servatus went on to state that Scripture revealed that God was complete within Himself, and that the Spirit of God is His motivating power within the hearts of mankind. In discussing the relationship between God and Spirit, Servatus pointed to the similarity that exists between the human body and the pulmonary artery, and circulation of the blood via the arteries and veins within the make-up of the human frame.

He further stated that the Holy Spirit is a mode whereby God expresses Himself among humans, and cannot be a separate person. He therefore concluded that the scriptures speak of three persons, but only as the varying appearances of God. This is made clear in John 1 v.18, where we read that “God no-one has ever seen” —but “the Only begotten God (Christ Jesus), Who is in the bosom of the Father, He unfolds Him.” We also read in John 4 v.24 that God is spirit, and that our worship must be in spirit and truth. Our Father cannot be localised or perceived in a frame, and further studies will show that He is revealed through His Son, Who is God`s Creative Original (Rev.3 v.14). The views held by Servatus have been referred to as moralistic trinitrianism. http://members.lycos.nl/Concordant/gt/gtfeb96.htm#MICHAEL%20SERVATUS
