what causes a stomach lump just above the belly button ?

I can feel a lamp in my stomach. It is not as big and it is right above my belly button. When I press it hard it kind of flattens until I can’t feel it any more. it does not hurt unless I press it. What’s is this lump. Any ideas?

It is likely epigastric hernia, which is the protrusion of an organ or tissue in the epigastrium. This is the upper central region of the abdomen and epigastric hernias are very common specifically above the belly button. There are two basic kinds- reducible and irreducible (there are strangulated and incarcerated forms of that)- the first of which is not as serious. All it means is that you can push the lump down until it flattens into your skin just as you said you are able to do, so I would say that you have the reducible form.

Regardless, one with epigastric hernia needs surgery to correct it as it will not go away itself. It is not an emergency situation (if you even have a hernia) and surgery is done mostly for cosmetic reasons. As well, if not corrected surgically, the lump may grow larger. If you need any additional information, simply Google epigastric hernia. However, the most effective choice of action would be seeing your doctor who would accurately diagnose the problem.

I hope that this helped and that everything will be/is fine.
