Playing piano and drawing are things which require more than a month of practise to get the hang of… As for losing weight, it is always going to be an uphill battle, but it isn’t one that you can’t win. There are a lot of people who fail once and then sit back and say it’s impossible or that they’re not good enough and that just isn’t true. People say that because it is the simplest conclusion, but it is not the right one.

If your mother is not being supportive and she is constantly introducing you to more and more junk food, then she should stop. If she won’t do that then obviously she is failing as a parent in that regard. What you need to do is find more strength within yourself (seeing as she isn’t helping). If you want greater self-confidence and greater self-belief, then lose the weight. It’s easier said than done, but not giving up and having a “never say die” attitude” is always going to allow you to become more confident and more self-reliant.

If I were you, I would keep your distance from all of the “crap” which she is buying and consult a doctor in relation to your weight. Doctors are always well-informed and if they cannot help you themselves, they can refer you to dieticians and other such professionals who will know what to do. Your doctor should be able to help you organise an eating plan. If you have a set plan in front of you, that could stop you from feeling free enough to eat the extra food which your mother is providing to you. Sometimes when confidence is lacking, we need to see something materialistic which can guide/ inspire us and I think an eating plan may help you.

Develop a diet and stick to it as best you can. You may have failed once, but that doesn’t mean you are going to fail again unless you let it happen. Organise a fitness routine which is not strenuous and which actually works ‘for you’ and that may also help a lot. Going to the gym or taking a short walk/ jog in the morning are good options and as you notice that you are able to walk/ jog further or lift heavier weights, that in itself will develop greater confidence within you. Just be adventurous and don’t give up on yourself. Life is a lot better than you are making it seem. Tell yourself that you can do this and do not let anyone else stand in your way :).

How to LOSE weight?

First, determine from the information below, what your weight should be. Then set yourself goals of a week, 2 weeks, a month, 3 months, 6 months and a year. As you see yourself meeting your goals it becomes easier. Remember, you didn’t gain your weight overnight so don’t expect to lose if overnight. Plus, weight lost slowly is more likely to stay off than weight lost in a hurry.

If you need conversion info, 1 kg = 2.2 pounds and 2.54 cm = 1 inch (12 inches = 1 foot) (1 stone = 14 pounds)

“How can I Lose 1 pound of body weight per week?”

One pound of body fat is equal to about 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of weight per week, you need to eat 500 calories/day LESS than you burn.

But it’s not a good idea to lose weight simply by cutting calories. As well as decreasing calories you should increase your daily physical exercise. This helps to burn calories and build more lean tissue which in turn burns more calories.

“What should a minimum calorie intake be?”

As a guide to minimum calorie intake, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommends that calorie levels never drop below 1200 calories per day for women or 1800 calories per day for men. Even these calorie levels are quite low.

Another thing that helps to lose weight is to always eat a good breakfast. That helps to jump start your metabolism which helps start burning calories. Also, try to drink 8 eight ounce glasses of water every day. One before every meal (except breakfast) and before all snacks. That helps curb your appetite which helps reduce caloric intake.

You know, life could be a lot worse. Your problems may seem big to you though. I know that you can’t get confidence from others. You have to learn that yourself.

Instead of saying you can’t do anything, say the opposite…that you can do those things. That would be a start.

If the things you’re doing, aren’t working, then do the opposite. That’s what George did on Seinfeld and it worked for him, for a while.

Mainly, read about people who really have it bad, like they can’t walk or that they’re blind.

Hell, I have COPD and have to use Oxygen 24 hours a day and a nebulizer machine and I think that I’m lucky because I could have it worse. But that’s me.

Oh, and if you enjoy drawing, then draw and don’t worry about whether your Mom likes it or not. It’s whether YOU like it. You can get a lot of anxiety out by drawing too.

Also, add laughter to your life. It really is the best medicine.

As for your weight, I wouldn’t worry too much. We go through phases as we grow and you’ll probably level out sooner or later, probably after you get out and away from your Moms influences.

You can go to a doctor at your age, but yes you would need supervision… As for starving yourself, you do not need to do that. Just make sure you exercise enough to accommodate what you are eating. If you exercise regularly, you will notice that you feel better and that you will lose weight (I can’t tell you how much weight of course).

You could always consult a teacher at your school or your school counsellor about this issue if you feel like being proactive. They could be able to help you in terms of persuading your mother to actually make some changes.
