It's a fairly easy book to read. It basically documents his experiences while in the Marine Corps as a eporter during the invasion of Iraq at the start of the war.
They've also made a 7 part series on HBO about 3-5 years ago depicting the events from the book.
It was his experience as an embedded reporter with the first reconnaissance battalion of the United States Marine Corps during the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
