Sinking feeling in bed

When I am lying in bed I sometimes all of a sudden feel like my body is sinking and no matter how hard I try I cannot move or even speak. Everytime this has happened I swear I see someone or something on top of me as if the reason I feel like im sinking is because someone is pushing me down. There was one night which was the scariest when I had this same feeling and it looked like there was a man on top of me wearing a mask and I tried to move and scream but I couldn’t. I don’t know why this keeps happening and it really makes me scared to go to sleep sometimes. And I feel like I cannot tell anyone about it because they would think I am crazy. What’s happening to me? It’s so weird.

Answer #1

This sounds EXACTLY like sleep paralysis.

Answer #2

You should see a professional about this. If anyone says they know what it is, I wouldn’t listen to them.

Answer #3

It’s either psychological and all in your head - or you there are ghost (if you believe in that sort of thing - which I dont)

You should really talk to a couselor or therapist. One of my cousin’s went through something simiar in which she would see people standing next to her bed and walking around that werent there - turned out she had a chemical inbalance in her brain and needed medication. She stopped seeing things after that.

it sound like you are young and looking for attention… not intentionally though… I’m not trying to be a jerk but a lot of time these sorts of things are fabricated by your subconcious to reach out and have someone reach back with concern… and a therapist could help you ellaborate this and clear this up along with your reality and dream mix up.

Answer #5

I used to see a therapist but stopped a while back ago. I never mentioned this because I didn’t think anything really of it at the time. I think I will go back to therapy because this is really starting to freak me out because the images I see keep getting worse and I feel so helpless and scared when this happenes. It’s been happening ever since my grandma died which was 2 years ago.

Answer #6

I found this online so maybe it is sleep paralysis

“Sleep paralysis is most often associated with narcolepsy, a neurological condition in which the person has uncontrollable naps. However, there are many people who experience sleep paralysis without having signs of narcolepsy. Sometimes it runs in families. There is no known explanation why some people experience this paralysis. It is not harmful, although most people report feeling very afraid because they do not know what is happening, and within minutes they gradually or abruptly are able to move again; the episode is often terminated by a sound or a touch on the body.”

“In some cases, when hypnogogic hallucinations are present, people feel that someone is in the room with them, some experience the feeling that someone or something is sitting on their chest and they feel impending death and suffocation. That has been called the “Hag Phenomena” and has been happening to people over the centuries. These things cause people much anxiety and terror, but there is no physical harm.”
