Should political parties be dissolved?

I think its time america ends political parties. I think a more open election and majority is the winner is better then electorals. The ending of political parties and the focus on candidates position on issue more then whether he has a are or a d. Political party politics is ruining this countries democracy unless a reform happens its still going to be republican or democrat. People need to know they have the ability to elect who is best not who is my party leader or is it are today or d today.

Do you think political parties are ruining the election system?

Should political parties be dissolved?

I believe if people choose who best represents their views. Then what political party hes in our country will really start to move forward. If you want real change lets remove political parties and have elections based on positions not party membership.

Answer #1

Current system fine, it just needs to be purged of corruption and career politicians (was never meant to be a career - serve and exit).

Answer #2

Very well put poppyjuice. Democracy has it great advantages and pitfalls, no matter where it’s practiced. With that I’m marking that a “yes” and moving on.

Answer #3

Amblessed,

I agree with the purging of corruption but I disagree with your opinion on career politicians.

It is meant to serve and continue serving as long as your constituents are satisfied with your performance.

Political parties and their basically opposing views, give candidates a chance to choose which party embraces their views in general. The parties then give the voters a chance to perceive which candidates seem to embrace the majority of that parties views and goals.

By having no parties, you take away a lot of information about the candidate from the voters and leave their selection open more to the results of which candidate can spend the most money on advertising. Most people don’t have the time or ability to research all candidates in every race in their state, so they are subject more to the persuasion of advertising.

“I think a more open election and majority is the winner is better then electorals.”

The electoral college is only used for electing the President and Vice-president. Since the country is governed by a consensus of all the STATES, it more accurately portrays the will of the states rather than the will of the people. It is the USA, not the UPA. The electoral college protects the majority of states rather than a majority of people.

hey…

I’m an aussie, not american; short answer: no, political parties shouldn’t be dissolved.

and here’s the long answer…

Political parties add diversity in not only singular issues, but of fundamental beliefs.

These parties are there so that leaders have a team of people who want the same sort of things for their country, and the voters know what they want because if they didn’t want those things they wouldn’t be in that party… For example… A democrate would say that the role of the government is to regulate and oversee the economy. Democrats say it’s proper for the government to ensure that companies do the right thing (such as pay minimum wages), and to ensure that people act responsibly in their finances (such as requiring contributions to retirement savings) This is one of the reasons why it is good that the Democrats have been voted in at the moment. Republicans are more focused on morality issues, which is why the are often referred to as conservatives…

Political parties help clarify what people in there party are fighting for… for example you probably wouldn’t find many democrates tying themselves to trees… :D

How many people actually look into the background history of politicians anyway? (other then Sarah Palin lol) A world without parties would make it easy for the Lenins, Maos, and Hitlers of the world to get into power. It would be an election even more so based on speeches than facts. Even if this theory went fourth in America think about Africa, Asia and South America. As it is there has been Idi Amin (Uganda), the attemped genocide of Rwanda, currently Robert Ngabi (Zimbabwe) in Africa alone. These regimes have killed thousands of civilians, whether informed of who they’re voting in or not.

The system you are proposing would only make these more common.

That’s my opinion… I hope it helps luv rach

Yes… I think we would be much better off without political affiliations. The red elephants and blue asses are a chimerical monstrosity wreaking havok on the country. A beast with two maws to swallow the lot of us. Controlled and limelighted by corporatist media owned by a handful of billionaires.

A candidate should stand on his platform alone… Why do we need the corruptible party system?… so we can pick between the lesser of two evils every time we vote?

This requires a little bit of cooperation from the people of the U.S. Stop looking at the nation as Red/Blue. Stop being so easily labeled and categorized and patronized. Stop listening to the corporate media. They chose the two presidential candidates for us… I was so disgusted after watching real change candidates such as Ron Paul… or Dennis Kucinich being slandered and marginalized during the primaries by our yellow journalist establishment that I lost all faith with the ability of the American people to discern hogwash.

Recall the New Hampshire primary recount scandal?… how about Frank Luntz using staged focus groups during the debates?… If you remember either… don’t thank CNN… NBC… CBS… ABC…BBC… FOX… because you most certainly didn’t hear much about these there.

Party system advocates here are claiming that we know someone better based on their party affiliations… I don’t think so… I think this is as close as we’ve gotten to placing a blue or red button in front of the populace and asking them to choose a favorite color. It is keeping us from the different colors out there to decide from.

We think that the RNC or DNC are never compromised. I disagree. Just as any union’s leadership can be in the corporate pockets… likewise these committees.

Pick your poison… right/left… republican/democrat… red/blue… always served up the same.
