Racism, why the double standards?

Please don’t get mad, I’m only curious, but why do african americans call each other n*rs, but if someone who isn’t black says it, they get beat up? Aren’t black people just insulting each outher and themselves?

Answer #1

I think it is the same way that Irish call each other “dumb Mick” but wouldn’t like it if someone else said it.

Answer #2

The and word should never be used PERIOD! Everyone is equal and everyone needs to accept and love everyoneXOXO

Answer #3

I grew up in a town with a lot of reverse racism. There has always been a big double standard. Why is it black people can have a black male magazine? But if I have a magazine called white male magazine. It would be banned before it ever hit stores. There will always be a double standard, I think.

Answer #4

im black and I don’t call my othr black friends by that name; and even if a person that is not black hears other black people calling each other by that name they shulnt thnk its ok for them to say it also. but sry, I don’t like the word, and I don’t like when it is used by either race!

Answer #5

Because they like to keep that between themselves so if someone else says it they think the person is crossing the line too much.

Answer #6

A lot of communities do this (for example the gay community will use words internally that are rude if straight people use it) and I believe it is a way of reclaimming the word… words by themselves hold no meaning… it is only when we attach meaning to them that they have significance… so no it isnt insulting when they say it to each other because they dont mean any insult as for why others cannot use the same words, because those others have historically used it to insult and demean… and it is hard to be absolutely sure if an outsider means it completely without malice…

Answer #7

Context is everything.
