Why is "play" the most important component for children?

Answer #1

For starters playing is how children learn. Childrens brains are constantly soaking in new information and learning new things. By playing games with them at young ages you are helping them learn. For example, we play with flash cards with my two year old - he can name almost every letter and knows what the picture is of. We play blocks - we ask him to name the colors of the blocks and count them as we build. Another reason play is important for young children is their development. Playing games helps their build their hand eye cordination, excercised their bodies and their brains, gets them familiar with other children and socalizing, etc. Lastly, play is important because kids need to be kids. We are only that young with no worries, no stress, no problems, for such a short amount of time.

Play is important in early childhood because it helps prepare a child for school. Engaging in play activities helps foster social and language skills. When a child engages himself/herself in hands-on play activities at home, it helps to improve his listening and reasoning skills. There are many multi-sensory play activities that teach a child to understand and learn through touch, sight and sound.

Play is important in early childhood because it helps in the physical development of the child. Obesity is a common problem among children today. Engaging in outdoor games helps in preventing childhood obesity. Outdoor games also help to develop the sensory-motor development of a child.

Singing along with children or engaging in play activities involving rhyming words enhances the language learning. Experts say that it is necessary to encourage oral language skills in the early years of childhood. Engaging in talking, singing songs, reciting poems and story telling enhances language skills in a child.
