Paranoid

I am 25 male and I am suffering from a psychological stress syndrom.whenever I am in a public place say a bus station I feel that every one is looking at me, when I see them I found no one doing this—but again same thing happen…till I feel paranoid literally. I also know that its an obsession only but still couldnt help myself. Since now I know my problem so I am trying different things…like going more on public places, but still its not helping me..

Can anyone help in this?/

Im assuming you’ve never been to a doctor, mainly because pscyhological stress syndrome isn’t actually a diagnosis. You should go see someone so they can acurately diagnose you. I dont want to start to speculate what you could have, but since this doesn’t just seem to be a simple case of phobia (like heights or flying), I don’t think simple exposure (just going to more public places) is going to work in your case. It is a good thing that you’re not avoiding them, this should prevent you from getting worse, but I dont know if that’s the cure… sayno2stripping has some excellent advice, I would definitely try and see a therapist about it, if you can’t afford it there are some places that do it for free or for a minimal fee (like $10).

Foker,

Having had some personal experience with mental health issues, I’d venture a guess that your paranoia could very well be a simple case of anxiety brought on by other stress factors in your life. If this is the case, a psychiatrist can prescribe you an anti-anxiety medication which should help you immensely. Alternately, you could try the services of a psychologist who would most likely help you to determine the stress factors and/or personal issues that are causing the paranoia and help you to work through them and thereby eliminate them.

However, whichever route you decide to take, I would suggest you definitely seek the help of a professional, as there is a small chance that those feelings of paranoia could increase in frequency and severity and actually be a symptom of a much more serious mental disease such as schizophrenia.

I don’t mean to scare you, and it’s in all probability not, but even a mild case of something more serious like schizophrenia or common panic attacks, if left untreated can take a devastating toll on a person’s life.

If you don’t have health insurance and can’t pay for a doctor visit yourself, I’d suggest calling your state or county’s behavioral and mental health services for information on a free referral or mental health clinic. You should be able to find their number through google or in the blue pages at the back of the white pages phone directory.

Above all else, don’t be afraid or embarrassed to discuss these feelings with a professional or a close friend or relative. Mental health issues happen to the best of us and are nothing to be ashamed of. And as I said before, if left untreated they can possibly ruin a otherwise promising life.

I wish you the absolute best of luck…
