My Kitten Was Spayed- Is she meant to be on painkillers?

My kitten was spayed yesterday and she was fine but today she is very sensitive (which is to be expected), but was my vet meant to supply me with any painkillers for her? She didn’t give me anything for my kittens pain.

Answer #1

The above is correct. My basset was spayed this year and was fine almost immediately after… no painkillers needed.

Answer #2

No, the sensitivity will go away in about a day or two. Atthat young age, it’s no different then peforming surgery on a child, the body adjusts to the change quickly. That and they’re two young for pain killers. Besides ever try and give a pill to a cat? I’d rather have my teeth pulled.

Answer #3

They usually don’t give painkillers for spay or neuter…kittens and puppies recover VERY fast…

Answer #6

Nah, no painkillers. They’re very fast healers… My cat was jumping on window sills a couple of hours after I brought her home, I know I know, she wasnt supposed to be jumping, but you ever tried to keep a cat still…?

speaking on behalf of the hopital I work at , we give the client the choice to pay for what we call PAIN MANGEMENT so yes we do give all of our surgies and dentals (if the have extractions) the chance to elect to pay for the meds. Our patients do not go home the same day, they stay with us over night and the next day we SOAP them. and declaws stay with us two nights, So yes animals DO EXPERICANCE pain, but it is a sign of weakness in the wild, so they hide it well. They bounce back well, however all of my animals had about 3 days worth of pain meds after surgery.

Answer #8

Pain killers hide the pain, sometimes that isnt such a good thing because what happens is they feel okay then they go about doing normal things and don’t take it easy like they should which in the long run makes things so much harder on them.

Answer #9

The person above must have a very amazing/expensive hospital he works at. The shelter I had my 1 year old kitten spayed at last night didn’t give us any medicine for her. It’s been 10 hours since my kitten was brought home, about 3 hours after she woke up from surgery, and she still refuses to leave the kennel, be near us, or move for anything other than her litter box, which she 1st used 9 hours after her surgery. If they had medicine I’d do just about anything to give my cat some right now.
