Does anyone have any methods they use for stopping or preventing an anxiety attack once you feel it beginning?

Answer #1

Breathing exercises work for me temporarily.

Answer #2

Breathing exercises work for me as well. I loosen up any tensions in my body and let my muscles relax. Then I breathe from my diaphragm (right below my ribcage) and focus on that area rising and falling. I breathe deeply and slowly and that makes me feel alright. I also like to talk it out with someone understanding that can keep me calm… Take a break, go for a walk, eat some food… These are just a few things that I did when I was having anxiety issues. Anxiety attacks are the worst :(

Answer #3

Sit down close ur eyes and relax

Answer #4

try to confidently say, this anxiety is trying to make me weak, NO now get Brave and STRONG No it wont’! now breath like this anxiety is in your lungs and you are trying to get it out, not coughing but just blow away the air with this anxiety, and if you feel like still 9-15% of it is still in then do the same by blowing air away and it all gets out :D> MIND CONTROL @_@

Answer #5

I find that as soon as you feel one coming on, you tend to panic more b/c you know what’s about to happen… The more you think about it, the worse it gets! Try to distract yourself and not think about it (easier said, than done)!!

Answer #6

Yes, breathing and becoming aware of your senses is the best solution. What do you hear? How do your clothes feel on you? The senses is the key. Feel your lungs fill up with air and exhaling. Then know that most of the time if it happens in public or in class nobody is really aware of it but you and that it will soon past after about 5 minutes even though it seems like forever to you.

Answer #7

I always stop what I am doing and I write it out in a journal.

Answer #8

yeah, sometimes i write in a blog that i have online. no one has the link to it so after i hit post, it’s just like releasing all those bad feelings out and no one will read it (:

Answer #9

I get panic attacks frequently. Controlling breathing and walking outside always seem to help me good luck getttin thru it :)

Answer #10

Wow, I will be sure to try some of these next time and hopefully they will help….

I just wanted to say I really appreciate all the comments and suggestions because for some reason they made me feel a lot less self conscious about this… so thanks everyone :)
