It depends on what you are taking. If it is sabutamol that opens airways, that works almost immediately. The chronic medication takes a few days to a week to kick in properly (obviously depending on how bad your asthma is and how strong the medication is). But they only prevent the asthma, they don't actually stop an attack.
You mean pills like prednisone? It takes a few days for them to kick in unfortunately.
