Is it normal for my puppy to pee when she is scared?

When my puppy is scared or nervous she pees, is this normal and if so will she outgrow it?

Answer #1

Yes it’s normal. She will most likely outgrow it.

Answer #2

this is all to common but not normal and she will not grow out of it without your training and help. Don’t greet her when you first get home,, don’t talk puppy talk, get to her level when having interaction with her, reward her when she piddles outside.

This is called submissive urination,…it is common and hardly “abnormal”. As Harley said, when you first greet her, stay silent…but also, do NOT give any eye contact either, untiI she settles and calms herself. Never EVER discipline for submissive urination…that will make matters worse.

During the first 14 months, there are several “fear periods”…they only last a week or so, during those times, you might see a little reoccurance of the urination…just act as tho you’ve seen nothing (don’t get disappointed, as it will pass, just as it did in the past)

I see you have a German Shepherd…she will require lots of socializtion (the more the better)…and obedience…those in themselves create confidence…and with confidence, she’ll be less inclined to do submissive urination…
