is a tongue piercing a sin?

almost every other girl has their ears pierced and nobody cares, but if someone has their tongue pierced, people flip out! They wonder what you’re doing with it… I know it says in the Bible to treat your body with respect and your body is a temple, but will you go to hell if you have piercings? Is a tongue piercing any different than a lip or an ear piercing? What about tattoos? Will you go to hell if you have one? What if it’s a religious one? Just wondering!!! thanks

Answer #6

Mosaic law forbids tattoos… but that would be Old Testament. Some Christians claim they aren’t required to follow the old Mosaic laws. Though they like to reference them often.

‘You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the Lord.’ [Leviticus 19:28]

What the Bible talks like you said before is the passage about :”The Body is the Temple of the Lord” But why everyone Christian is critizicing piercngs and tattoos? Well , Is because in antiquity piercings and adorning the body with tattoos or paintings it’s body was used by ( we could say:Pagan) Cultures when they where going to war , or doing some comunion with spirits(The Mayan, Aztecs,Incas,Maori, The Ainu) or as a way of Showing to the rest of the tribe or village His/Her prowess in war( The Celtic, Gauls, Teutonic,Picts and Greek). For them mean something, as a meaning. But now piercings( are used by: The nomadic Berber, & Beja tribes of Africa, The Bedoins of the Middle East, India, and North Americam Natives to mention a few) is a fashion : “ He has a piercing ,I want one because it looks cool” That the way of thinking now. And because of infections, and the one in the tounge is very dangerous, you can have an infection : “Piercings increase the range of contracting of serous diseases and can also b life threatening if if the tongue becomes infected, swells up and blocks the airway. It can also lead to teeth being chipped, infection and pain. “

“Piercing oral sites also carries a high risk of infection with the possibility of transmition of organism such as HIV, Hepatitis B and C, Herpes Simplex virus and candida.”

And about tattoos.. there was a time that the only people who used them were prisioners Like the Romans used to do , (people who were outlaws), or criminals. But for my opinion, I wouln’t like my skin tattooed or have a piercing, I don’t find it ‘cool’ but the most important as a Temple of God (that are our bodies are) I would like to take good care of mine and I why would I would like to mark my body with a passage,or with anything, if what truly matters and what is important and primordial is that you keep the passage or His words inside your heart..where it matters, where God dwells. Because they are people that tattooed them with passages and never respect them or live by what it teaches. But taking good care of your body and health , you respect God, too and His creation.

a tounge peircing isnt any different to any other there all peircings, they all reguire a hole in your flesh as for them being a sin ultimatly, no neither are tattoos because back when man invented the bible nothing in it was said about tattoos and peircings those things among many other “sins” didnt exist among many people back then if people are saying its a sin its just another new found thing that christians have recently decided is bad you wont go to hell especially since all you have to do is repent anyway the only one to make that decisiuon is you but it wont affect were you go when you die nothing will

Answer #9

My friend’s mom is a high-end Christian - they are very serious and devoted to their religion and she recently got a tattoo (non religious) so I’m assuming it isn’t a sin. As for piercings, if they are a sin that’s stupid sorry to say. It’s your body and you should be able to do what you want with it without being judged.

Answer #10

I dont know why you would go through the trouble to get something that will just get in the of your talking and eating focus on what matters aka Christ and serving and loving him and you wont want a toung or anything piercing

Answer #11

I have a tongue piercn maself but when I got it I was not yet serious about my christianity but now that I am,the answers I am getin are confusing.but ear piercings and nose ones are no dffrnt because sum women in the bible who were true to God had nose piercngs.either ruth or naomi had one.m not sure wch one.I do not thnk its a sin.

Answer #12

like I told my mom when I was 16 I asked if I can get0a tattoo or my toungue pierced and she said neither but I got my tongue pierced anyway and I told her if I get tired of it ill take it out now I’m 24 and still got it. I also have tatoos now too and she loves them I get tatoos that are in memory of something like my kids birthday and name and stuff like that

Answer #13

A few years ago my cousin and I got our tongues pierced and her aunt was telling her that she was going to hell, and yet the aunt has her ears pierced. Also, I have a tattoo of a bible verse, and people were criticizing me saying my body is my temple and God does not like ink on our bodies. The way I see it, is when we die, we leave our bodies behind anyway.

Answer #14

thanks for your comment elane22, but I believe 1 timothy 6:10 talks about the love for money!!! thank you though!!! =D

Answer #15

These things have nothing to do with your salvation, however, what you need to ask yourself, is what does God have to say about this, and then, find out.

If you really love the Lord, you will really want to please him.

And you can’t know how to please him, until you read his word.

And just a thought, I read in the news paper the other day where a young marine, died, after having his tongue pierced. Do you think he would have proceeded to have this done, if he had known it might cost him his life?

In the case of the tongue, if infection should happen, it can go straight to the brain.

I don’t believe this can happen, anywhere else on the body, if so, I haven’t heard about it.

And the bible teaches us that it is not the outward adornment, that pleases God, but, the inward spirit.

im a christian and umm a pastors daughter( but we all are teh same and not perfect!) I myself dont think its a sin to pierce urself in “abnormal” areas… like tongue, lips… but I guess that in thsi world of sin and all that were suppose to reflect God through ourl ives.. so we have to be dif, act dif, dress appropriate not like what the world does.. or elese well be like them and wede be bad ex. of a christian b/c we have a tat. or watev. and peopel would start to think its alright and change teh whole idea of a real christian and stuff. now as for a tatoo.. it is a sin. now im not tryna bore you or sumthin I forgot where.. but in leviticus it says SOMETHING LIKE THIS not sure exact “ do not put any types of marks on your body…” and tat. is a mark- a permenant mark!! so like as l ong as you DID NOT know then you should still ask for forgin=venss but you didnt know so its ok BUT IF YOU DID and you put a tat. then you sinned because you wanted to to what your flesh felt like and not what god… you know? hope that helped:)

Answer #17

To correct a paragraph, it should say:

“For them mean something, as a meaning. Are used by: The nomadic Berber, & Beja tribes of Africa, The Bedoins of the Middle East, India, and North Americam Natives to mention a few.

But now piercing in our society is a fashion : “ He has a piercing ,I want one because it looks cool” That the way of thinking now.”

Answer #18

I wouldn’t worry about the imaginary friend in the sky, look more at its no good for your teeth, they can chip your thooth, infection, that kind of thing

“”I know it says in the Bible to treat your body with respect and your body is a temple””

The bible says a lot of things. people like to pick and choose.

Answer #19

I already have it done I’ve had it for 3 and a half years, but I’m trying to stay faithful to God now and I was just wondering, if piercings are a sin, why a tongue is extremely inappropriate but no one says anything about ears… but thanks guys you helped!!! =D

Answer #20

Answer #21

WELL YOU DEFENETLY WON’T GO STRAIGHT TO HELL FOR IT! BUT IT SAYS a lot IN THE BIBLE TO NOT PEIRCE YOURSELF! LIKE ONE THAT I CAN THINK OF IS 1 TIMOTHY 6:10!

Answer #22

check it out, I think that the bible isn’t all what it seems to be, I would have to say that God created us all different, all with unique brains, for God, there is no past, present, and future, he is all of that, and he knew what our futures would be before he made us, he gave us the brains we use to think with. God created us knowing that would would question religion and knowing that we wouldn’t know for sure, what was a sin, and what was not. The bible has been written by man, passed down by man, re written by man, and so on. If you go into a room of 50 people, and you tell a secret to one person, who relays it to the next, all the way to the end of the line, what you told the first person will be no where near what the last person in line says. God is all powerful, if he really wants us to know whats going on, he’ll come down and tell us whats up, of course if you’re living a horrible life than ya, your probably not in Gods good favor, but if you try to live a good life, and love God, and do right, you should be fine, even with a couple small sins here and there, I doubt God will send you to hell to burn forever for eternity just because you have some tatoos, a couple peircings, maybye you lie a little, and smoke some pot, lol, I doubt you’re going to burn forever. now if you’re a pedophile or a murderer thats not living right, those are what I would call a real sin, tho everything does have circumstances, if you murder to defend urself or your family, I think that would be acceptable, but still, I’m getting on to a whole new subject lol, later

Answer #23

I personally don’t think it a sin. I want to do it too. But if it was a sin God would have written in in the 10 commandments. Good luck!

Answer #24
