Dogs usually chase after a ball when you throw it. The real problem is getting them to brink them back to you! haha. If your dog is very unmotivated, you could get one of those balls that you can put dog food inside them, then your dog will want to chase the yummy smell and get the food.

Some dogs aren’t born with a very high prey drive (that’s instinctive drive, that gets a dog to chase a rolling ball).

So…tell me this. Does she chase the ball, and just not bring it back? Or is she totally disinterested in the ball? If she isn’t interested at all, then you’re not going to have much luck teaching her to fetch. However, you might try different toys to get her attention…to rev up what prey drive she does have. My dog could care less about a ball…but a frisbee really gets his attention.

If your dog does chase the ball, but then wants to keep it…you need a 30 foot long nylon cord (5/8ths inch)…toss the ball so it lands BEFORE the cord runs out…then bring her back to you…when she’s in front of you, PRAISE BIG…and do it again and again. They will learn this fast, since it if so much fun for them.
