How do I teach my first grader to read?
Teaching your child reading and writing is no simple task. Well teaching your child anything is no simple task, especially reading.
Starting out small and creating a plan of action is going to be what really works. This includes just starting with small improvements, like learning the alphabets, understanding the direction of reading, and sounding out letters is a great place to start.
Of course though, getting started is the hardest part. Also, I'm applying three great tips from ... on early reading. It get's a lot more IN DEPTH.
Tip 1: Start with the Alphabet.
It’s important to start slow when teaching your child how to read. Going through and teaching your child the full alphabet is the first step in the learning process. Most people have a hard time figuring out where to really begin, and the alphabet, in my opinion, is the the ideal and most logical place. The alphabet is the cornerstone to reading, so making sure your child understands all of the letters of the alphabet is the first key step.
Tip 2: Emphasize reading order.
Even though it is simple for us, you have to hammer down the reading order. Many people don’t realize that children do not think in the same straight-forward way adults do and the process of reading is still abstract to them when they first start learning.
Tip 3: Start Small
Start teaching your child small words, such as cat and dog, and then words that use similar character and sound composition. For example, if you start with cat, you can transition into “bat” and “sat” and then even further into more complex word compositions such as “battery”.
Generally, they learn in a classroom environment. If your child is having trouble, you can request aid from a tutor. If your child is home schooled, you should be following the guidelines given to you in your home schooling requirements.
Ive recently tried this program with my son and it has worked wonders for him. This website has free video guide lessons to help kids learn to read. You must check out: First Step Reading
