How can I prepare myself for an interview?

Tomorrow I have an interview at Staples (for those who don’t know, its an office supplies store). Anyways I’m always scared of interviews because I’m shy and never know what to wear.

How can I prepare myself?

The important thing is to remember to be professional, courteous, and portray good retail characteristics in the interview, meaning showing that you are patient, care about the customer, know what your talking about, being comfortable with asking question to your superiors. Basically a really really good representative of the store. If you have experience, which they will ask you about, illustrate how you helped other, grew, and helped your previous workplace. Never say things that indicate you stubborn and dont work well with others. If this is your first retail experience draw upon examples that show the above in other areas of work or even personality.

then there are little things, I.e dont say UMMM or “Like” (she was like…), remember hygiene, dont play with anything in your hands, dont fret, look at the person in the eye and give honest answers thatll make them want to hire you, yes?

clothes: professional but a little laid back. I say show up in a nice pair of slacks with a collared shirt; short heel, hair pulled back.

of course all of this is easier said than done but in the end they will help your appearance etc tc

Staples is quite a smart environment. By that I mean, all the merchandise is squeaky clean and to do with offices so you have to represent that to get into the spirit of it. Wear something like a jacket with matching skirt or trousers, white or plain light-coloured shirt and smart but not flashy shoes, tie your hair back and maybe straighten it, wear discreet, quite dark or neutral make-up colours and simple jewellery such as a gold chain and simple stud earrings. Keywords are clean, simple and efficient. For health and safety reasons, you will have to adopt a lot of this dress code if you get the job, and someone who bothers to turn up looking smart and clean and professional always stands a good chance at interviews. Visualise yourself in the job before your interview. You will probably be asked if you have ahd an experience of how you dealt with a difficult person and how you dealt with it. Think of your strong points and also of your weaknesses. You might be asked about this. If you are not confident using technology, don’t say so, but if you are worried about using their tills etc., just say you are willing to learn new things. Good luck.

try to practice.. infront of a mirror.. or tell your mother, boyfriend, sister, brohter whoever to help you out to pretend that they are interviewing you and to ask you question.. when tomorrow comes act like if it was them asking you the questions not the actual ‘stranger’ another thing that helps is breathe..calmly..one thing we all forget to do when we’re nervouse or shy..breathe and tell urself that you can and you will do it!
