I want to correct the other comment. You can no longer get married without parents consent because you are pregnant. How I know, I did it. Right after I did it they changed the law because a 15 year old married a grown women because she was pregnant. so they changed the law. if you don’t believe me the womens name was Lisa Clark. look it up.

Hi,

The legal age of majority in Georgia is 18.

A child (anyone under the age of 18) cannot just move out from their parent(s) home. The parent(s) are responsible for the child till that child reaches 18. You can leave your parents’ house without their permission when you reach the age of 18, or they can kick you out.

You cannot leave before you reach 18, although there are a few exceptions.

Exceptions to this rule:

* If a child gets pregnant, that child can get married without parental consent and after the marriage will be consider emancipated.

* The teen can become emancipated. There is no prescribed emancipation status laws, such cases are adjudicated on an individual basis. This requires a ruling from a judge. You must convince the judge that there is good legal reason for you to be able to leave your home. In the state of Georgia on an annual basis this happens about a dozen times.

* The teen can join the military with parental consent at age 17.

technically in the state of georgia you can legally move out at 17. teens in georgia are able to do this because of a loop hole in the system saying they can go to jail at 17. the problom here is you cannot sign any contracts until the age of 18 so have fun finding a place

well im not sure about the pregnant subject but if you are 16 or 17 from what I been told and from what I have researched you have to be emancipated by a judge to move out of your parents home legally…how you can get emmancipated for sure by a judge is— you have to have a very good responsibility status. As in volunteer work and a signed letter helps a lot and you have to have a such pet that you have proven to take care of also need a letter from a vetinarian as proof. YOu have to have a steady well payed job that you can support urself from… also if you own a car wich would be helpful you have to show a car title and an insurance bill under your name (also with a report of no backing up in payments wich is vital ) so geting the flow???more letters of good status and responsible behavior a better chance of geting emancipated and although you have been emancipated your parents are still liable for any damage done by you watsovere so keep that in mind and that is until you turn 18.

I know what your thinking very complicated!! but dats if you relly want to move out legally and it can b done well atleast in the state of georgia… I have a cousin that did it I helped him out a little and hes 18 now and is very happy…I wouldnt know of any other state.O and one very very important reminder that is for sure they will ask you you have to have a very good excuse for leaving your home this is important no good excuse=no automatic emancipation AND SORRY FOR THE LONG MESSAGE just TRYING TO HELP HOPE ITS GOOD ADVICE AND WILL WORK OUT FOR you ANYMORE QUESTIONS JUST ASK DIRECTLY TO ME AND I WILL DO MA BEST TO HELP.

ok big question… why is it so difficult to get ONE SOLID ANSWER??? I’m 17, have very good grades, trying to build a solid and sturdy life with my 20 year old fiance. I still attend school, graduating this year, and for some reason can’t get along with my folks. I’m the eldest in my family and do everything I can to keep the little ones in line and on the right track. however, I’ve been very stressed and wanting to move out I feel that I can and am capable of living either on my own or with a friend. but like I said I’m 17 and am not fully clear on the moving out legally because my folks still want me here… I’m sick of trying constantly and getting nowhere or appreciated. and if anything I believe I diserve to be happier than I am. I’m in the region of georgia… and I just keep getting different information on the ages and requirements of moving out… I do not wish to take this to court because of gov. they dont grant you things for not being happy or depression or not being appreciated. for the most part all we are is poor and that’s really not a good reason plus I have my morals and don’t wish to bring that kind of attention to my parents household. I have places I can go and know for sure that I can continue to attend school there too. but I don’t wish to be considered a runaway or of that sort or anything to be put on my record for something this stupid but meaningful to me. I keep getting the same answers but also the same condradicting and arguementive answers too. I have been told that in ga that you can moveout without parents consint for sure at 18, but for me that’s 7 months away that’s also 7 more months of my sanity gone as well if I wait… 17 you can get emancipated (not the rout I want to go)… I’ve been told that if you get pregnant that you can marry without parents consent and therefore become emancipated (but another says that that was changed)… moreover, I was also told that you can just up and move out due to a flaw in the law at age of 17… I honestly do not know which to believe and what to do. this is all so hard and I will not get into more reasons to why I wish to leave or personal problems… I need to move, it’s something I really believe I have to do for me.
