The devonian period occurred from 416 through 359 million years ago. It is famous for being the main period in which plants dominated the land. Before this time, photosynthetic organisms lived in water. But, in the devonian, plant life spread to the land and dominated the landscape for millions of years before herbavores evolved. Also, the devonain period is the time when the first fish developed primitive legs and entered land. These fish eventually gave rise to amphibians.
