How can I dye my hair blue without looking vulgar?

Okay so i am going to dye my hair blue at summer, in order to do this i need to bleach it first. I was wondering how much should i do? all of it? i mean my hair is long and i dont want to damage it too much but the current colour is a brownish sort of redish colour more brown tho and i go very tanned in summer, what would suit me? and should i go with blue or another colour? also how long after i bleach it should i put the bright colour in? pls help

don’t dye all of your hair blue (if that’s what your intending) that would look sort of tacky, you could cut your hair in layers do the bottom layer blue and the top your natural color, or do blue highlights. those would be cute, don’t have too bright of a color either. the blue like that would go well with the brown hair and tanned skin and you should wait a few weeks after bleaching it to put the other dye in. i hope this helped! :)

It did! thank’s Kayla, so just highlights? cos i wana do my fringe too.

I’m glad it helped :) and yeah the highlights would look good with a fringe hairstyle!

Just warning when blue fades it turns a gross green color. I used to have blue in my hair when I was younger and it ended up looking GROSS when it faded.

Tip for if you decide to do the whole thing:

Your hair is dark, so you’ll need to bleach it a few times to get it light enough for the blue to work and not look like sh*tty greeny-brown. It’s quite long (by looking at your picture) so you will most probably need 2 boxes (assuming there is 60ml in a box, which there should be) each time. It will feel like absolute crap afterwards if you don’t have a conditioning treatment to put on after the bleaching. It will cost a lot to do it yourself anyway, so I really recommend you to go to a salon and get it done professionally.

- But, if you really want to do it yourself, make sure you get somebody else to help you so that the bleach is distributed evenly. It won’t go blonde after the first application, and do not not not not leave it on longer than what it says on the box hoping it will bleach lighter- IT WILL SNAP OFF!!! After washing it out (shampoo 3-4 times to ensure it’s completely out) towel dry your hair carefully before putting the conditioner on (your hair will most probably feel like straw so be very careful and don’t ruffle it too much) once it’s as dry as you can get it by towel, put heeeaps of conditioner on (or a conditioning treatment if you want to buy one) and leave the conditioner on for like an hour, or even overnight with a towel wrapped on your head. Wash it off carefully, DON’T blowdry your hair, and don’t straighten/curl it for the next week or so. Only wash your hair every 4 or so days (the shampoo may upset it) and every time, do the conditioner thing. After 2 weeks, you can do another bleach and do exactly what i said for the first one, including the washing and conditioner bit.

- It may even need a 3rd bleach, depends how stubborn your hair is.

- Please please please don’t just chuck the bleach on and casually wait a while then rinse it off and go about your day like normal with blowdriers and heated appliances! It may seem like it can handle it, but in a few days when the wear really starts to show, it could start to snap off and you could loose half your hair! Just be patient, and remember that bleach isn’t magic, it takes effort and care to get blonde enough to put colour through it. And remember, having naturally brown hair could turn the blue to a crappy greeny mush, so you have to make sure that all of the brown is out.

- Keep an eye on your hair, if it starts to go jelly, then stop bleaching, if it starts to go hard like an uncooked noodle, then stop. You could try some protein spray for the 2 weeks in between each bleach, to make sure the hair stays strong. But be careful and don’t use it for more than 2 weeks at a time or your hair could get too much protein and snap! lol.

-

- All in all, I think it would be cooler to get blue flashes, that bit of hair behind your ear on the underneath. That way, you could have them over your shoulders when you want people to see them, or under the hair when you don’t. Then when you tie your hair in a ponytail/bun, they are streaking up the side of your head and look awesome!

If you need anymore help, I’m right here! haha

Do you guys have RedKen? It’s a product range, in my opinion, the BEST. They have products for all different types of hair, and they have some great stuff that has saved many of my client’s hair in the past. Since I can’t actually look at and touch your hair, I’d have to recommend you to go to a hair salon that sells RedKen (if you guys have it there) and talk to them about what your hair needs. They will be able to thoroughly look at your hair and see what you need.

The biggest piece of advice I can think of, is to read the directions thoroughly and obey obey obey! Lol. People always think they know better than the box! :LL Every box/brand is different , obey obey obey!!!!
