What's a champion of democracy?

Answer #1

A person who has been doing brave things in order to fend for freedom and democracy. Or for equal rights for some group of people who were oppressed.

These people might be writers, philosophers, role models. But also politicians, civil rights activists or revolutionists. Some historical examples are… Jane Adams, Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi.

But you can also call all these people in North Africa who struggle to get rid of their dictators “champions of democracy”.
