Should you buy fish at a fish market if it smells fishy?

Answer #1

Define fishy.lol. Fish should smell like fish, but it shouldn’t smell bad or anything. But generally at a fish market things do smell more fishy than usual.

Answer #2

Ummn please tell me this isn’t a legit question? ‘Cause I had to laugh!

Answer #3

If the fish is fresh, it shouldn’t smell fishy (it shouldn’t really smell at all, or at the very least smell like the ocean). When I’m at the fresh fish counter, I always ask to smell the fish first and pass on anything that smells too fishy. Just buy enough for what you can eat that day.

Answer #4

True, and good answer, in the supermarkets you don’t pick up on the fish smell, but at a real fish market, you will get a fishier smell. More than usual.

Answer #5

the way to judge a fish is by the eyes- if the eyes are clear it is a good fish, if the eyes are cloudy it is bad. obviously this rule of thumb will not work for a fillet and you will have to follow what your snout tells you- if it smells raunchy don’t by it.

it is an often told tale told to those who have pondered on how to stop fish from smelling- the general reply from those in the know is to simply “cut its nose off”.

Answer #6

Yes its legit because I have heard that when u buy fish if its fresh it shudnt smell fishy

Answer #7

Answer #8

Don’t eat the smelly fish.

Answer #9

Umm if it smells fishy then no that means it is bad..i would just look for one that looks alright and smells alright and if there aren’t any of those i would never go back there.
