What happened to Blu-Ray DVDs?

What happened to the blue ray dvds?Havent heard about them for a while after the initial hype.Will it ever become cost effective and popular?

They are around, as are HD-DVD’s - both types are currently locked in a war over which one will become the main format for the future. Warner Brothers have recently chosen to only distribute their movies in Blu-ray instead of HD-DVD, so now there are over half of the Movie Distribution companies committed to Blu-ray over HD-DVD, so Blu-ray certainly has the edge at the moment, but the war isn’t one yet. And once the war is won (whichever one wins), then we can expect to see a lot more of the technology that plays Blu-ray be mass produced, and therefore more affordable - likewise with the disks. It took nearly 5 years from DVD’s introduction to start to become a real threat to video tapes, so bear that in mind with these new technologies…
