Are Pitbulls/American Bully's really that bad?

I know a lot of people with pit’s and they seem to be so nice and loyal. I’m wondering other peoples perspective on this dog? Are they that bad should people get rid of them?

The problem now is…that all those nasty genetics are running thru many of the dogs today…so unless you know HOW to assess a pup, when it’s 6 or 7 weeks old, getting a Pit Bull is a crap shoot.

American Stafforshires, as well and the English Staffie, are ACK dogs…that means the crap shoot part takes place when you pick a breeder to buy one from. A good Staffie breeder has certain standards he wants to stay within…that includes personaility, reliability, size, color…every piece and part of the dog must be within THOSE limits that the standard calls for.

These days every Tom, Dick and Harry thinks he knows how to breed Pit Bulls…and I’d bet there are darn few of them who can actually read the difference between a “hard’ pup and a “soft” one…

If you’re looking to get one…be VERY cautious…and remember it’s not a couch potato, or backyard dog…it’s extremely active, VERY intelligent, and needs a ton of exercise and discipline (that is NOT punishment…but it needs to know limits, and to learn them in a consitant and FAIR manner).

First, you can’t address all American Staffordshires (pit bulls) the same. The stigma created for them by the morons who fight the poor dogs always precedes any thoughts or feelings about the actual dog. If you were to own a paper-registered AKC pit, your chance of aggression is almost nil, because the dogs weren’t bred for agression, strength, and jawline specifically. If you adopt a pit from the pound or shelter, there is a dramatically higher chance your dog could be of a bloodline used for fighting, and could “snap” or become highly aggressive against other canines.

The dogs are usually very submissive, even if they were fighters themselves, because the people who fight them are unusually cruel to them. So the dogs themselves are very nice to humans (out of fear), but can’t help themselves from fighting other dogs (because their genes, demeanor, and habits tell them too).

I think if you are to adopt a pit, you need to be experienced with dogs. Specifically how to train them, be a good parent, and recognize warning signs for agression.

Sorry if this was too long, but they’re worth it. They are some of the sweetest, most loyal dogs I’ve encountered.
