Okay, Im a personal trainer and former military, and I like to work out and compete in fitness competitions. I usually answer a lot of the "weight loss" questions on this site but there is one question I am not sure about. I read somewhere that if you are working out you should consume enough protein for your body to build the muscle and repair the muscles. Now, I also read some where that you should consume only the amount of protein of pounds you 'want' to weigh. For example, if I want to weigh 125 lbs I need to consume only 125 g of protein per day. Is this true?? How much is enough protein?
Consuming the numerical value of your weight would be too much protein(unless you're maybe a body builder...)
You should take your weight in pounds and multiply it by 0.36-0.6 grams
equals ___ grams per day or protein a day.
Of course that amount would go up for when you're ill.
There is another way to calculate it here and basic protein info here: http://www.krispin.com/protein_basics.htm

I have never heard that, yet I am no expert! It is true that you do need to eat a lot of protein to keep your muscles balanced and energized to grow when you work out, but I don't recall hearing anything about comparing grams of protein to weight. :)
