Hi,

I work at the Humane Society of Greater Miami on weekends, which has a full preventative clinic.

It takes awhile to prep the animal for surgery, probably around 20 minutes. You have to pull blood to check their iron level, then sedate them, then clean and shave the area of the surgery, then literally tie them to the operating table by their paws.

To spay (female dog) the actual surgery is about 30 minutes. For neutering (male dog) it takes about 15 minutes.

I’ve seen both types of surgery, so don’t hesitate to ask me anything else.
