How do you get poems published?

I love writing poems, it is a way to let my emotions out without being hurtful or harmful to anyone. Some people have told me I should get my poems published, but I do not know how to go about this. Can you help?

okay, try sending them in to your local paper, and try getting them copyrighted.
Also give them to your teachers, they can always help.
