Getting your work published isn't easy. Especially with poems, you have to have work is either really new age or really top of the line. Typically, publishers won't take angsty teenage poetry, so if that's some of your work I would think twice. And that's not an attack on what you do, if that is what you write. Honestly, the smart way to go about getting yourself published and read is by taking creative writing courses whenever you can. I had great creative writing teachers who looked over my work for me and helped me make it better and really allowed me to develop a style. So I was getting the tutoring of professionals and learning how to make my writing better.

Also, being in creative writing allows you to enter into some pretty big contests. Winning them or placing in them will get you money AND get you published. Granted, it's not and entire book of your work, but starting out with a few poems in some collections of other student work is impressive. Look into it.
