Getting a poem published

Asked by fau 4 months ago, 9 answers.

I've been writing all my life, about my inner thoughts and feelings. I have gotten a lot of positive feedback on one of my poems (even from teachers), and I'd really love to get it published. I just don't know where to start or anything.
Does anybody know how I can go abouts doing this?

Send this to a friend

I believe you would write to one of the publishing houses and give them your information and tell them you would like to have your poetry (which by the way Is very good) published. They will gladly send you that information. That is what a friend of mine did, He now has a book of poems.

VANTAGE PRESS- this will cost you some money-upwards of $10,000.00.
shorter poems around 20 lines can be published by THE INTERNATIONAL LIBRARY OF POETRY ( POETRY.COM) - you can buy a book you are published in for around $50.00- but don't get caught up in their contest scam- everyone gets offered a silver cup with their name engraved on- but you have to pay $165.00 for your 'award'. and any other awards you 'win' you will have to show up at their national convention- meaning you have to buy tickets to get an award- something they don't tell you in the contest rules.
I have had one poem published by NOBLE HOUSE, no contests- no scams- just send in your poem- and buy the book you are published in around $50.00 to $60.00.
I have heard of other sources- but haven't had dealings with them.
good luck.

yea I agree with baldwinwolf, you could use poetry.com to get your poems published thats how I'm getting one of my poems published, and I sent in another one dats going to be published in the best poems and poets of 2007...but I also went to a convention in vegas regaurding poetry, and well there was dis one company there that could make your poems into a book and den you could sell them on your own and the company would also help you to get your own contract with a publishing company, let me find out that info for you and I'll give it to you as soon as I find it

You can get your poems put into contests, and if you're good enough they'll publish you into books. You can try this web:
