You need to get him into a better routine. I would start by having him nap earlier in the day and then giving him his tea by 6-6.30 a nice warm bath and bed. Getting him into a earlier routine and wearing him out in the morning will help. Make sure he eats enough dinner if hes not full he wont get as settled and sleepy.

ROUTINE IS THE KEY!
Addy is 8 months, and here is what we do, so maybe it can help you out a little.

7am-wake up & have 8 oz bottle
9am-3Tbls Cereal with apple juice
930am-short nap (usually less than 1 hour)
1130am-Lunch (size 2 jar of fruit & size 2 jar of veggies)
1pm-330pm NAP NAP NAP
330-8oz bottle (When she wakes up)
530-dinner (size 2 veggies & toast or something to gum on)
730-nice warm bath
8-read a book
830-3 Tbls cereal, 8 oz bottle, & BED

My general rule is that she CANNOT sleep past 3pm. That way she is good & tired by the time she goes to bed. I find that loading her up with cereal & milk right before she goes down helps make her even more sleepy & keeps her down longer. She sleeps from 830 until about 6 or 7, which is awesome for us!

mom of a 3 year old
just cut out all naps
takes a couple of days to get the routine but hang in there
and know that when hes in there screaming that its good for them to cry
then you can have your own quiet session starting at 8

love the above comments but who has time for all that

I have 3 kids, 5, 3, and 1. I agree get you child on a routine schedule and stick to it. Not sure how old you son, maybe I over looked, but I would not cut out the naps. If you son feels asleep in the middle of the day, obviously he is tired let him sleep for a while depending on the time. Consider what you are feeding him for dinner, what time was he last drink and figure out why he is waking up so earlly in the morning.

give him a nap from 1:30 pm to 2:30
then play with him, feed him dinner then play with him, give him a hot long relaxing bath, read him a LONG STORY, then he'll sleep!!
I'm not a mother, but I think this would work!
