um try putting milk or formula (whatever you use) and introduce it in a sippy cup, to see how he likes it, then just slowly stop giving him the bottle... I work at a day care and thats what were doing with these two babies and it seems to work...

Hide all the bottles and offer a sippy cup with his favorite character on it when he cries for a bottle. He will cry but don't give up, he will eventually give in.

Stop giving it to him when he wakes up. Go in to his room and tell him that he will not be getting a bottle and to go back to sleep, you'll see him in the morning. He will cry, but do not give in or you will be giving him a bottle when he's 3 in the middle of the night. It will be hard, but remember it is for the best.

My health visitor told me to reduce the amount in the bottle by an ounce every night. (I was breast feeding but she told me to make this one feed a bottle.) It's worth waking up for 8oz, but when the milk slowly goes down to 5oz or less the baby becomes less dependent on the milk and begins to learn to sleep through. It takes a while to learn the lesson (as said above) but this idea makes it easier than just stopping.

Transition him into sippy cups with soft spouts (we liked the Nuby). At night, give him a sippy cup with water. You can slowly reduce the amount of water until he no longer takes a cup to bed *(which will be helpful when it comes time to potty train). This will be difficult, but it is so much better for him in the long run.

Try not to put anything but water in it first of all because it can really damage their teeth. And if they are used to getting milk in it the water will be something they don't want and will hopefully reject the bottle on their own. I have a one year old and I still give her a bottle when we put her down for bed but it's only water and I try not to give in to her when she wakes up at night wanting more, they are old enough now to not have bottle so we just got to be stronger than they are and know that it may be ruff for a few day's but it will pass and they won't care after a while!

Don't give them to him anymore. Itis okay to let them cry...when he stops getting the reward than he will stop crying in the middle of the night.
