You don't burn fat from walking you burn fat from eating less calories then you burn in a day. So walking does help you burn more calories but if you are not eating right you will never burn fat from walking or any other exercise. Also it is not the distance that matters as much as the pace you walk and the length of time you walk. If you can walk for 30 min to and hour a day at a fast pace then you will be able to burn off some good calories. One good thing about exercise is it gives you a great sense of accomplishment and so you are able to turn down junk food and deserts because you start to think I don't want to undo all the good I did on my walk today by eating that Kit Kat bar.
you want to lower your calorie intake about 500 calories so you typically wnt to stage in the range of 1600 calories a day then work out 3 times a week just make sure your physical activity out wieghs the calorie imput then you'll lose the wieght
diet tips:
drink 8 glasses of water per day instead of eating 3 meals eat 5-6 mini a day
dump soda or crbanated drinks limit salt/sodium intake which causes bloating
switch side dishes for fruit or veggies 30-45 cardio work out switch activiy every 2weeks
lower your portions to the size of your fist hope this helps ...miss v
it takes a person approximately 18 minutes into the workout to start with the fat burning process
just keep working out frequently, 3-4 times weekly if you're more out of shape, or daily if youre more in shape, start for 5-10 minutes to get warmed up then exercise 20-30 minutes in you're target heart rate zone to burn calories and caloric fat efficiently
for the average person you would burn about 90 calories or so per mile plus all the calories after your workout since your body is in the recovery stage and is going crazy
if you'd like to purchase in home dvd's with weights which cranks up the intensity and makes the workout much more efficient than any old plain walking, just gradually get used to it and you'll be fine
hope this helps!!
