Is it wrong of my friend to think that im an alcoholic, if i love a good drink during week days?

I dont drink to get drunk its just nice to sit back and have a refreshing drink in the afternoons.

Answer #1

It depends on how their going about saying it. If they are just concerned and watching out for your safety, while they are wrong, atleast appreciate the gesture. Just kindly tell them you dont have a drinking problem and that its normal to have a drink in the afternoon. If their bein rude about it…then tell them to p!ss off its your body and a drink or two a day isnt harmful.

it doesn’t sound like you’re an alcoholic. to me you sound like a person who just likes to relax and enjoy a good drink. my mom does the same thing. she’ll go and get herself something to drink like wine or a beer and she’ll come home and enjoy it for the rest of the evening, and she doesn’t do it to get drunk, but just to relax. so i would say your friend was quick to judge and maybe you should tell her that you don’t do it to get drunk, but rather to relax

Answer #3

Yeah well shes going about it talking to my other friends, twisting my words making me sound like an alco! They say they are all worried about me for eff sake! And i quote: “yeah shes even drinking through the week now and on the weekends.” I know what an alcoholic is and its defently not me!

Answer #4

You know I have met many people in denial. Most of them say exactly what you say. I have yet to meet one who really didnt have a problem and everyone else was wrong. I suppose it is possible theoretically. Since we can’t diagnose you online, it really isnt up to us to say whether your friend is right or wrong. I’m reserving judgement. I’ve just talked to enough people where the first thing that comes up about this is that other people are worried about their drinking (and of course all those people are wrong). It’s long after where they start to mention stuff that makes me realize that those other people were right.

Answer #5

If drinking is not impacting on your life in a negative way, if you are not having (or heading toward) money, legal, or relationship problems because of drinking - then you most likely are not alcoholic. If you ARE spending too much money or time with alcohol, or have had fights, accidents or tickets due to alcohol, maybe it is time to re-examine yourself. (If you have a family history of alcoholism or addiction, be extra careful, as genetics does play a role in who can become addicted.)

As far as whether your friends are right or wrong, perhaps they are just concerned.

In any event, take care and Good Luck!!

Answer #6

I’m going to have to disagree with this. I know functioning alcoholics. They are not legally in trouble or financially. And obviously the alcohol is already having a relationship impact in this case.

Answer #7

sounds like they are just passing judgment your way. approach your friend, talk to her, maybe she does have some real concerns.. what is good for you, is not necessarily good for her.. If that’s your choice she should respect it.
