Will i disappoint my parents with this career?

How do I tell my parents that I want to become something they obviously won’t approve of? Why don’t they approve of this career? Because they think it’s a dead job that won’t provide a hard ground financial survival, but then studies show that many companies desperately need ppl in this career? And by the way this career is a visual arts/ tech. designer…

Answer #2

I highly doubt your parents will be that upset they will prob even be proud. Dear sakuraxbloomer, Parents usually have very high dreams for their children…only wanting the best for them. The type of job you desire is probably not familiar to them. Take some time and show them just what you are planning to take, show proof of success and why you feel this job would be profitable. Sue…good luck

When I was 18 I wanted to be a jazz musician. Because of my strong science apptitude my parents were more set on me being an engineer.

I ended up dropping out of music. I discovered Internet in the mid 1980’s and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread so I went into computers.

My parents think that I wasted time and money persuing music when it wasn’t what I ultimately ended up doing. To me it was following my dream. My dream changed but if I didn’t try music I would spend the rest of my life asking “what if…” When I started mucking with UNIX, C, and the Internet more conservative advice was to study Cobol, RPG, etc. because everyone seemed to know that there was no money in what I was interested in.

Everyone has advice for you. They will plan your whole life if you let them. Only you can hear the beat of your own drummer.

Beaten paths are for beaten men.

Answer #5

life is full of boring cubicle jobs that pay just enough to make you comfortable.

do something you love.

if you work hard (and you really have to work hard) then you’ll succeed and your parents will respect your dedication and commitment to your goals.

I say stick with it and work as hard as you can at succeeding in that job.
