Why isn't my computer recognising windows?

I installed windows 7 on this computer I scrapped together (yes, it meets all the reqs for windows 7). After installing it, I ran all the updates I could and downloaded flash player and java, etc. The I finally rebooted for the first time, but now it won’t boot up and asks me to install windows as if it were never installed.

Any ideas on what I should do?

When youi boot the system, press F8 and see if the menu will come up. If it does, choose Safe Mode, and see if that works. You could also try booting off the WIn7 CD disk and doing a repair. If this does not work, make sure that there are no CDs or diskettes in the drives - I know it’s a long shot, but make sure. If there are not, and it still won’t boot, there is a possibility that your build is corrupted, or that the hard drive is damaged. If you have a second PC to work from, download the diagnostics for the hard drive from the manufacturer web site, and run them off a diskette, if possible. If not possible, pull the HD from the crashed PC and set it up in a working PC as a secondary drive, then run the diagnostics. If the drive is OK, Windows is likely corrupt and will need to be reinstalled. Good luck!
