Why are people so sterotypical about emo ?

look up andy sixx on youtube, he says some really helpful things, he also has some amazing music ;)))

its unattractive and looks dreadful

being emo isnt about cutting youself or any of that bull. its genere of music. some people look “emo” because that is their style. people assume that if you dress a certain way then that automatically mean you like to hurt yourself or you feel no pain. it’s idiotic!

Its because they can’t accept the differences between themselves and emo people, and in fact any kind of different people. They’d rather call them freaks, and give them names, and say they do stupid things, (like cutting themselves) when in reality, like you said its just a stupid stereotype that people cant get over.

Be yourself and if anyone has anything to say about it, ignore it. Because you shouldnt have to be put down like that.

Well, and this is MY OPINION.

People who claim to be emo are usually teenagers and as you know teenagers have different phases that ranges from moody, to strange to whatever they can come up with.

So I would say that people are stereotypical towards emo, because it LOOKS LIKE they are a bunch of teenagers looking for attention.

I don’t like the whole emo culture, I find it unattractive, however I do not much care if someone else wants to be or claim to be emo.

well, firstly like someone’s already said ‘emo’ is a genre of music. it’s then got it’s own sort of fashion that’s evolved from it.

people are stereotypical about anything, I mean look at all the stereotypes there actaully is. people are stupid when it comes to putting people in categories and labelling.

the best thing to do, is dress how you want, listen to what you want, do what you want and not care about other peoples’ opinions on you. I get emo + scene + whatever else shouted at me, it’s ridiculous lmfaoo.

Emo is like a style. Theres girly, rocker, sporty, scene, and emo. Its a style and its not all about being depressed, a lot of them just like the clothing, makeup, hair, music, ect. Personally I respect them for dressing the way they do and not caring about wateveryone else thinks

Emo is a stereotype… what else do you want people to be about a stereotype? If you’re going to dress a certain way that is connected to a bunch of stereotypes, dont blame people for stereotyping you… as for it being bad, I dont think its bad. I personally like some of the style, I think the hairstyle is cute. I dont like the fact that self harm has become so acceptable and widespread within the culture, because honestly people have started to roll their eyes and view it as attention seeking behavior, and it is a serious problem. However, it does seem to press a lot of buttons, and I’m not entirely sure why.

its NOT a style its NOT a lifestyle nothing above. I bet none of the people that say they listen to EMO music cant name any TRUE A** emo bands. some low-minded person with no life came up with the idea that anyone who listens to REAL emo bands cut them selves. and look at everyone now. A BUNCH OF FUCKING COOKIE CUTTER COPIES!

because some people don’t like it when people dress in all black and whatsoever. I don’t mind emos and I think it’s ridiculous when people see someone dressed in black that they’e automatically emo

I think people judge SOME emos because …

1. They give themselfs a title “emo” I dont give myself a title like Sporty, Preppy, Friendly, Outgoing, etc. Im a lot of things not just one, and so are you and everyone else in the world as corny as that sounds :p

2. In different areas of the world its over rated and in others you rarley see it, when its over rated its a trend and people get sick of it thats when “posers” are pointed out and other things like that. When its very rare in an area people arent used to it, its like seeing a disabled person for the first time almost. Its odd to you, and they dont look “normal”, if you have never seen an “emo” person its odd aswell sometimes they can look scary especially to younge kids and elderly people beause they havent seen it before or didnt grow up with it around.

3. Some kids that are “emo” are very steryotypical for example, saying Rawr or drawing pictures with blood, broke hearts, hair in the face etc.
