What's the song "Just Like You" by Three Days Grace about?

Essentially that someone supposedly wants to guide the singer (“You thought you were there to guide me”) but this ‘guide’ isn’t a particularly nice person hence why Gontier lists bad qualities (“I could be cold, I could be ruthless, You know I could be just like you”). He doesn’t want to be like this guide (“You were only in my way”) although does accept that he could easily go down this route so breaks free to go his own way (“On my own, cause I can’t take livin’ with you, I’m alone, so I won’t turn out like, You want me to).

I’d imagine people who have experienced peer pressure or controlling parents may be able to relate to this song well.
