What the electrons look like in a neon atom?
for the element neon, the atomic number (10) tells you the number of electrons. That means there are 10 electrons in a neon atom. Looking at the picture, you can see there are two electrons in shell one and eight in shell two. Because shell two has eight electrons it is now full.
There are 10 electrons circling around the nucleus which consist of 10 protons and 10 neutrons. There are 2 electrons in the first electron shell and 8 electrons in the second shell, giving it a stable octet structure.
