What Should I Do When I've Been Raped ?

I’m a 13-year-old girl and not a very happy one, I was raped at seven years old by my stepdad. I told my mum when I was eleven and she phoned the police but she already got divorced to him by then. I wouldn’t speak to the police because I was too scared. Do you think I should talk to the police now I’m older or leave it and forget? Thanks xxx

I am very sorry that you had to go through such a horrible ordeal.

First seek counsellling right away to deal with your feelings and to teach you copeing skills and how to move on after such a tramatic event.

Second if you know where? your x step dad lives then yes go to the police and see if he can be charged for this offense years later…..they may say? did you go to a doctor and have an examination after this happend as proof you would have to go to court , testify against him and prove it in court.

Third Let there never be a second time ……be more open with your mother never leave things buried inside.

Dear heretohelpxx, I hope you are in counselling. If you’re not then ask your mom if you can go see one either at school or from the health clinic in your area. A counsellor may suggest you go to the police and talk about it for closure and getting healthy but there would be a specific time for this and a counsellor will be able to know when and how. Doing this on your own may not be a great idea but doing it with the support of a counsellor probably will be very beneficial. What happened was a very terrible thing but you can heal and become very healthy and happy with the proper help. Sue…good luck
